Preparing for a move? Tips for a stress-free transition
Buying and moving into a new home is a huge milestone - it's an exciting time, but it can also start to feel overwhelming. From packing boxes to paperwork, there’s a lot to think about and without a plan things can quickly become stressful.
Whether you’re counting down to moving day or still in the early stages, having practical plans in place can make all the difference. With the right preparation, moving can be a smooth and positive experience from start to finish!
Here are our expert tips, planning advice and handy checklists to help you stay organised, confident and in control throughout your move.

Start early and plan with purpose
One of the biggest stress reducers when moving home is time. Giving yourself plenty of it allows you to tackle tasks gradually rather than rushing everything at the last minute.
Start by creating a simple moving timeline and break your move down into manageable stages – from sorting paperwork and booking removals to packing room by room. A checklist can be incredibly helpful here, giving you clarity on what needs doing and when.
Top tip: Keep all important documents (contracts, mortgage details, warranties and ID) together in one folder so they’re easy to access when you need them.

Declutter before you pack
Moving home is the perfect opportunity to assess what you really need. Packing items you no longer use adds unnecessary time, cost and stress.
Go through each room and decide what to keep, donate, sell or recycle. Decluttering before you pack means fewer boxes, quicker unpacking and a more organised start in your new home.
Handy checklist to consider:
● Clothes you haven’t worn in the last year
● Duplicate kitchen items
● Old paperwork (securely shredded)
● Unused furniture
Top tip: Pack room by room and keep screws, bolts and fittings taped to the furniture they belong to.

Anthony’s first-time buyer journey
For first-time buyer Anthony Clayton, moving into his Keepmoat home in Kingswinford marked a huge milestone. While the process felt daunting at times, especially navigating unfamiliar steps, careful saving and determination helped make homeownership a reality.
After moving in on 3rd November 2025 with his partner, Anthony says the best part is the fresh, new-home feeling and knowing no one else has lived there before.
With a supportive responsive customer service team on hand, his experience highlights how preparation, perseverance and the right support can make even a first move a successful and rewarding transition.
Whether you’re a first-time buyer or starting a new chapter, preparation is your best tool. Take it one step at a time, stay organised and don’t forget to enjoy the journey.
